FOUR Launceston dragon boat paddlers will have an extra reason to perform at their best when they take part in the Pan Pacific masters games on the Gold Coast this week.

Kim Pinner, Paul and Jean Van Nynanten and Paul Bird will dedicate their efforts to club president Sue King who died from breast cancer on Monday.

“We’ll be paddling in her honour,” Mr Van Nynanten said.

The four paddlers will join a Hobart crew from Derwent Storm as the only Tasmanian entry in the games.

Altogether 32 paddlers will make the trip to the Gold Coast to compete in the masters, grand masters and great grand masters categories on Friday and Saturday.

Earlier this year, Tasmania won its first medal in the national championships at Docklands in Melbourne when it brought home a bronze in the mixed team event, with members of that crew to again compete on the Gold Coast.
