Lake Barrington Regatta 2012

Tasmanian Dragon Boat Regatta, Lake Barrington

The Regatta was just wonderful, with 3 races at 250m and one at 500 m — thought we’d die of exhaustion in that one, but the Tittilaters proved their potential by bringing a heavier boat home with less crew members, in very close times and in the final 250m race only being beaten by the Derwent Storms.

This team of course is in training for the Australian Championships so I’d be very worried if they had NOT beaten us all.

It was a pleasure to watch this team in action as they are very disciplined, very much in time with their strokes, and very powerful. Our sweep and coach, Paul, is part of this team for the Championships so we are lucky to have him gleaning more tips for us all for the future.

DSC_0973In the afternoon, the 4 boats paddled up to the Forth Falls, and our Louise did a stint of fine drumming for her first time.

The boats all “ramped” together at the Falls, then turned on their axis as a group with the outside paddlers swinging them all around. Very impressive, and I was hoping they would take us all home like that to save us paddling, but no, we did the 14 kilometer round trip all by ourselves.

The dinner at night was superbly catered by the Nipples on Ripples Club and they are to be congratulated on a fine effort. Huge job for over 100 people and beautifully done. The two women in their stunning sexy T-shirts will also be remembered. Some of us even danced. Thanks to Jo for the songs.

DSC_0355On Sunday we had a leisurely paddle for a 7km round trip up the beautiful lake with Mary-Ann and Sam both having a bit of sweep training and both do ing very well, not only to stay upright but to do slaloms and detours that made the trip really interesting. The tug-of-war between the two halves of the boat was a challenge with one half of the boat facing the other half then paddling like hell to get off the marker. Now we can start preparing for the 2013 Tasmanian DB Regatta.
